'Net KillSwitch: No

Schneier is opposed to giving any President a 'kill switch' for the 'net.

The first flawed assumption is that cyberspace has traditional borders, and we could somehow isolate ourselves from the rest of the world using an electronic Maginot Line. We can't.

...The second flawed assumption is that we can predict the effects of such a shutdown.

...The third flawed assumption is that we could build this capability securely. We can't.

Beyond that, of course, is Dick Nixon. There's no reason to assume that a President has the moral high ground, or if he has it, will keep it.

IOW, enabling chicanery is not in the national interest.
